Pollinators with a purpose.
Led by Resident Beekeeper
Katherine Haynes
The Stephens Valley apiary is more than a charming addition to our green spaces—it’s a vital part of our commitment to stewardship, sustainability, and supporting local ecosystems. Thanks to a special partnership with Haynes Hivegoods™, founded by resident and certified Tennessee Master Beekeeper Katherine Haynes, our bees are helping bring pollinator education, community connection, and handcrafted local goods to life.

From Backyard to Buzzing Community Resource
Haynes Hivegoods was born right here in Stephens Valley, out of a deep concern for the plight of pollinators. As Katherine shared:
“When we first moved in, one of the things we noticed was that all of the builders’ landscape packages included native plants that were especially supportive of pollinators. That really stuck with us—because without pollinators, we wouldn’t have food. During the pandemic, I started Haynes Hivegoods at my desk, creating a product line that includes honey, beeswax, and propolis—the main products of the hive.”
What started as a small backyard operation quickly grew into a mission-driven business rooted in environmental education and ecological care. Today, the apiary is sponsored in part by the HOA and integrated into the community’s design, with colonies expanding from around 10,000 bees in winter to over 100,000 in peak season.

Pollinating More Than Flowers
The bees at Stephens Valley play a powerful role in pollinating our shared gardens, native landscaping, and wildflowers along trails and greenways. And beyond their environmental impact, they’ve also inspired a growing appreciation among residents for nature’s interconnected systems.
Haynes Hivegoods also offers a Hive Sponsorship Program designed to educate both beekeepers and non-beekeepers about pollination, bee health, and the relationship between pollinators and the plant world.

From the Hive to Your Home
You’ll find Haynes Hivegoods products—like small-batch honey, beeswax candles, and propolis-based skincare—available at select community events and on the Haynes Hivegoods website. Each purchase supports the apiary and helps promote pollinator-friendly practices across the region.
